SQWEZ is a compression utility for DOS, whose main feature is creating self-extracting archives in EXE format. Starting with v2.1, it also supports non-executable archives, in its native .SQZ format. It was developed by JM Software / Jim Miller, and distributed as shareware.

Identification

v≤1.1 EXE: ASCII "erawtfoS MJ" (read it backwards) appears somewhere in the overlay segment (refer to MS-DOS EXE#Special file positions). Can be at the start of it, or at some multiple of 512 bytes from the start of the file.

v1.2-2.0 EXE: Undetermined.

v2.1-2.3 EXE: The overlay segment starts with ASCII "SQWEZ v2.".

v2.1-2.3 SQZ: The file starts with ASCII "SQWEZ v2.".
