HuffYUV by Ben Rudiak-Gould is a lossless video codec created to temporarily store video data coming from a capture card for later editing that focuses on speed and editability.

It uses the FourCC code HFYU (plus a different one for HuffYUV MT).

It is similar to lossless JPEG, in that it predicts each sample and then Huffman-encodes the error. The predictor is intraframe-only.

Videos encoded with v2 cannot be decoded by v1

'Official' development stopped with v2.1.1 but there have been some attempts to carry on

CCESP-patch v0.2.5 fixed some issues

HuffYUV Revisited by Klaus Post released v2.2.0 but is known to be broken for RGB input
