AgGateway Sales Reporting File Format

The AgGateway Sales Reporting File Format is a format promoted by the AgGateway nonprofit consortium for reporting transactions regarding agricultural products. It is based on tab delimited plain text. Its stated purposes include encouraging use of a consistent, nonproprietary format for whatever data interchanges are needed for the business side of agriculture, as opposed to proprietary formats such as that of Microsoft Excel. (One of the documents describing the format states "Neither party should feel pressured to support the use of Microsoft Excel file format.") So, of course, the official spec of the format is distributed as, what else, an Excel file.
