Apple Mail is the default email software included in all version of MacOS since 10.0.[1][2] With the release of MacOSX Tiger (10.4), the EMLX format was introduced.

File Information

EMLX files are stored in the Users home Library/Mail folder and an Eml file with the addition of a byte count at the beginning and a Plist at the end.[3] The Plist contains flags[4] indicating read status, replied, and other attributes.[5]
EMLX files can be converted to stand-alone Eml files.[6]
