LAS is a file format for exchanging 3D point cloud data from Lidar captures[1]. The LASer format standard was developed by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS)[2].

LAS files have a magic header of 4 bytes LASF

LAZ files are compressed versions of the LAS format[4].
