Description

Vorbis is an open-source, patent-free audio file format developed by Xiph.org. It is designed for high-quality, lossy audio compression and as an open contender to proprietary or licensed formats such as MP3 and WMA. It is most commonly used in the OGG container (indeed, for some time the OGG container was effectively Vorbis-exclusive, and Vorbis is still often referred to as "Ogg Vorbis"), but may also be used in the Matroska container, either as an audio-only Matroska Audio file or as the audio stream of a Matroska Video file. Most recently, it may be used as the audio stream of a WebM video file.

The Wikipedia article on Vorbis notes that Vorbis files may be found in some newer games by Ubisoft with the extension .sb0

The extension .ogg should now be reserved solely for Ogg Vorbis files for backwards-compatibility reasons, with other Ogg Audio using the extension .oga (with the exception of Ogg Speex, which uses the extension .spx) and Ogg Video using .ogv. However, there may still be other Ogg Audio / Video files with the .ogg extension.
