ACT is a variety of Adaptive differential pulse-code modulation created by Actions Semiconductor (a Chinese company) and commonly used in Chinese MP3 players and digital voice recorders. This format, which is lossy, is usually used for relatively low-quality audio, while other formats such as WAV are used for higher quality sound recording.
