TLzrw1 (also written Tlzrw1) is a Delphi component (a kind of Pascal library) for data compression, including file compression. It was developed by Danny Heijl, based largely on other people's compression code.

There are two compressed file formats:

  • Signature "WRZL" (read it backwards). Uses LZRW1/KH compression, by Kurt Haenen. The name implies that it's related to LZRW1 by Ross Williams.
  • Signature "!HZL". Uses LZHUF compression.

Discussion

More research is needed.

Unfortunately, files having the TLzrw1 signatures do not appear to be very portable. Some files likely use custom extensions of TLzrw1 format. Some might not be related to TLzrw1 at all. And the TLzrw1 formats are probably not platform-independent.

Identification

Files using LZRW1/KH compression start with ASCII "WRZL".

Files using LZHUF compression start with ASCII "!HZL".

To confirm, look for "LZRWIdentifier"/"LZHIdentifier" in compon/LZRW1.pas.

It's possible that big-endian variants of these formats also exist, with signatures "LZRW" and "LZH!". The latter could be hard to distinguish from one of the JAM Packer formats.
