BinVU is an obscure executable character graphics format, apparently associated with ArtWorx. It is a DOS EXE file that, when executed, displays the graphics (or tries to).

Discussion

According to the change log, BinVU was introduced in ArtWorx v0.85 (though the generated files contain the string "ArtWorx 0.80").

The files do not seem to run correctly most of the time. It's not clear what the requirements are.

No evidence found that BinVU has ever been used, beyond the ADF-INFO.EXE file included with ArtWorx.

Identification

Files start with the bytes in the BINVU.DAT file included with ArtWorx. Only one version of this file is known.

Specifications

The format could be learned about from the ArtWorx source code and the BINVU.DAT file.
