PKZIP is a line of compression/archiving software, known for its association with the ZIP file format. It was developed by PKWARE.
In some versions, the utility named PKZIP only does compression, and the companion PKUNZIP utility does decompression.

Notes
Registered versions
Registered users of v1.10 could request a code to use with the PUTAV utility. PUTAV could then be used to modify PKZIP.EXE from the shareware version, to turn it into a kind of registered version, with "AV" feature enabled (-!
option). Specifically, it modifies the 58 bytes starting at offset 33874, which are all 0 in the shareware version.
v2.x is similar, but there is now a special registered PKZIP.EXE, and only it can be modified in this way.
International versions
For some context regarding international versions ("Shareware Marketing", "AB Soft", etc.), see the ORDER.DOC file from, say, v2.04g.
It's unclear how many international versions existed.
