nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is a protocol for a decentralized social network that is censorship-resistant while not compelling any of its hosts to store or serve speech they dislike. It has independent users referred to as "clients" and "relays", who run software using the protocol, with clients connecting to relays to send and receive posts. While relays can ban users or content, the network as a whole is intended to be more resistant than some other systems to having such bans actually be effective at suppressing anything, as clients can still go to other relays that have the information that's been banned from some of them.
