.ned files are modules created by Nerdtracker II, a tracker for MS-DOS (with a later SDL port offering greater compatibility with modern operating systems) designed for the creation of music for the Nintendo Famicom / Nintendo Entertainment System.
As well as loading and saving files in its native NED format, Nerdtracker II offers the ability to compile files into native NES code, allowing the music to be included in a NES game or a standalone NSF file.
