MultiMate was a word processor originally created by a contract programmer for internal use at an insurance company in the early 1980s, then released as a commercial software package mostly marketed to corporations rather than individual users. It was later owned by Ashton-Tate. A selling point was its simiilarity in functions and interface to the Wang OIS dedicated word processor machines popular in the corporate world at that time, when many companies wished to migrate this function to less expensive and more versatile general-purpose personal computers. MultiMate was only released for PC/MS-DOS; since no Windows version was ever released, it faded out along with DOS and was discontinued when Borland acquired Ashton-Tate.
