File Format
Name Txt2Exe (BlackLight)
Ontology

Txt2Exe is a DOS utility that converts a text file to an executable file that, when executed, displays the text in a viewer. It was developed by "BlackLight".

The generated file can be in EXE format, or (since v3.0b) COM.

[edit] Discussion

The embedded text is usually encrypted.

The software supports a few different languages.

The change log lists eight releases of the software. Only the last two have been found, both from 2001. The copyright date implies that the first version might have been released in 1995.

[edit] Identification

Undetermined. Identification of generated files is complicated by the encryption, and other options, and the lost versions, and the apparent lack of any deliberate signatures.

Files made by v3.1b, English language, display the following line of text at the bottom the screen:

 [↓/↑=Read] [PgUp/PgDn=Page] [Home=Top] [End=Bottom] [Esc=Exit]

For v3.2b, it's:

 [↓↑←→=Read] [PgUp/PgDn=Page] [Home=Top] [End=Bottom] [Esc=Exit]
