AVI, standing for Audio/Video Interleaved, is a video container format originally developed by Microsoft and IBM and based on the RIFF wrapper format. AVI is itself a wrapper that can enclose video bitstreams in many encodings, including Indeo, Sorenson, and Cinepak.References
