Dirac, also possibly referred to by the name of the standard SMPTE 2042-1-2009[1] or by the name of an implementation Schrödinger, is a lossy video codec developed in 2008 of roughly the same generation as H.264, VC-1, and VP8. A subset consisting only of I-frames is called Dirac Pro, VC-2, or SMPTE 2042-2-2009[1].
