Microsoft Word is a popular word processor program which has existed in a number of versions for DOS, Windows, and the Macintosh. It is often distributed as part of the Microsoft Office suite. Various native file formats have been used, and some other non-Word-specific formats can also be opened and saved. There are separate articles on these formats:
- DOC (Word document)
- DOCM (Word macro-enabled document)
- DOCX (Word document, XML format)
- DOT (Word template)
- DOTM (Word macro-enabled template)
- DOTX (Word template, XML format)
- Word for DOS screen capture
- WordProcessingML (XML format preceding later DOCX one)
