The TIFF-FX (TIFF for Fax eXtended) specification defines a family of TIFF profiles (subformats) intended for use with internet fax systems. Notably, it defines TIFF compression types 9 (T.85 JBIG) and 10 (T.43 JBIG), and photometric interpretation type 10 (T.42 ITU L*a*b*). An "extensions" document defines compression type 34715 (JBIG2).

TIFF-FX is apparently sometimes called TIFX. It was developed in part by Xerox, and may also be known by names similar to Xerox Internet Fax File Format.

Profiles

  • Profile S: Minimal Black-and-White Fax Profile
  • Profile F: Extended Black-and-White Fax Profile. Also known as TIFF-F or TIFF Class F.
  • Profile J: Lossless JBIG Black-and-White Fax Profile. Based on JBIG and T.85.
  • Profile C: Base Color Fax Profile. Based on JPEG and T.42.
  • Profile L: Lossless Color Profile. Based on JBIG and T.43.
  • Profile M: Mixed Raster Content Profile. Based on T.44.
  • Profile T: Lossy and Lossless JBIG2 (abandoned?)
