Early Macintosh files did not have an extension but versions prior to 2.0 used the Type/Creator codes VisM/Vis4 and version 2.0+ used the Type/Creator codes SPmd/SPro

Strata 3D 2.0+ files use the extension .S3D and have the beginning hex values 53436174 or SCat in ASCII.

Earlier Strata files may have used the .VIS extension and may need conversion before use with current versions.[3][4]
