This section is for communications protocols, including APIs.

[This article is a work in progress, and it may turn out to be difficult to decide what should be listed here. The word "protocol" is not easy to define. In fact, a file format is really just a special kind of protocol.]

[Most protocols are arguably a little out of scope for this wiki. Feel free to document any protocol you want, but the focus should be on protocols that are closely related to file formats, that are used as file formats, or that may be found recorded in files.]
