Garc archive
Garc archive (.GAR) is a compressed archive format associated with Garc, a raster graphics utility developed by John Callicotte. It contains files in certain standard image formats, such as GIF, BMP, and TGA.
Discussion
Only Garc v1.x supports .GAR files. In v2.x, archives became collections of image files stored in an Access database. In v3.x, the archive features were dropped.
Garc v1.x is a menu-driven DOS program, distributed as shareware. Later versions are for Windows.
Garc lists its website as <http://sound.net/~johnc/garc.html>, but no archives of it seem to exist.
Identification
.GAR files created by Garc v1.0 start with ASCII "Garc1.0
".
It's unknown if there are any other versions of the format. Garc v1.1 probably exists (Garc v2.0 mentions it), but has not been located.
Software
- Garc v1.0 (DOS software)
Following items are listed for reference, but don't support .GAR format.
- Garc v2.0 (32-bit Windows GUI)
- Garc v3.01 (32-bit Windows GUI)
