Ancestral Quest is genealogy software developed by Incline Software[1], which runs on Windows and MacOS using Crossover(wine)[2].

File Information

Ancestral Quest software uses the extension AQ to store family files for version 3.0 to current. Format is similar to the PAF format which was the native format of the software for versions 1.0-2.2[3].

AQ files are database files for storing genealogy data[4]. Files begin with hex values 41510000 or "AQ" in ascii.
AC files are database files for storing genealogy data for collaboration[5][6]. Files begin with hex values 43415100 or "CAQ" in ascii.
AQZ files are AQ files compressed with ZIP.
