RIPEMD (sometimes called "the original RIPEMD") is a 128-bit cryptographic hash function. It is vaguely similar to MD4, and has known security weaknesses.
The term "RIPEMD" can also be used to refer to the family of five hash functions which includes the original RIPEMD, and the four members of the RIPEMD-160 family. This article is only about the original RIPEMD.
